Muguku triumphs at Parklands Sports Club Annual Charity Golf tournament

Caroline Muguku is the winner of this year’s Parklands Sports Club Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at the par 72 Vet Lab Sports Club in Nairobi over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 31, Muguku fired 43 stableford points to beat other 143 golfers to the overall champion’s gong in the 22nd edition of the tournament.

“I feel great to close this year with a victory, and more so to contribute to a worthy cause like this,” the Muguku noted.

Muguku’s exceptional performance highlighted a day filled with camaraderie, sportsmanship, and charitable giving.

“The tournament is contributing to a noble cause. Proceeds from the event will be distributed in kind to support various homes and organizations identified by the club,” Parklands Sports Club Chairman Norman Asega told Standard Sports.

“This competition is more than just a day of golf; it’s a celebration of community and compassion. Through the generosity of our participants and sponsors, we are able to touch lives and bring hope to those who need it most. We are proud to uphold this tradition of giving back, and we are grateful to everyone who has contributed to making this year’s event such a success,” Asega added.

Asega’s comments were echoed by Parklands Sports Club Honorary Secretary Isaac Kamande who expressed gratitude to the golfers, sponsors, and organizers for making the event a success. “This tournament goes beyond golf; it’s about changing lives and spreading hope to those in need. We are proud to continue this tradition of giving back to the community,” Kamande stated.

Vida Expressive CEO Donvan Mwangi hailed Muguku for her victory as he urged more Kenyans to join the cause to help support more charitable causes like this.

“Today, we saw exceptional talents on the fairways and I’m glad to be part of this event that blends sports and charity, it is truly inspiring. We’re proud to help amplify this story of giving back to the community,” underlined Mwangi who was part of the production sponsors.

In other results, Joe Kisolo, playing off handicap 10, claimed the Gross Winner title with a score of 77 gross.

Men Division A (Handicap 15 and Below) category saw Eugene Ngigi (HC 14) take the top spot on 38 points as Kepha Bosire (HC 10, 35 points) beat Abraham Samoei (HC 13, 35 points) on countback for the podium finish.

Men Division B (Handicap 16-28) category was won by Henry D’souza (HC 19) on 38 points. Wilfred Gichovi (HC 25) beat Francis Kimathi (HC 16) on countback to take second place on 36 points.

In the Men Division C (Handicap 29 and Above), Kenneth Ringera (HC 34) showcased an outstanding performance, winning on 41 points.

Among the ladies, Lady Division A (Handicap 25 and Below) saw Anisya Ibragimova (HC 22) emerge victorious on 36 points, ahead of Esther Ngigi (HC 21) who had 34 points as Jane Mwangi (HC 23) finished third on 30 points.

The Lady Division B (Handicap 26-36) category was lifted by Jeniffer Mwangangi (HC 25) on 32 points.

The Lady Division C (Handicap 37 and Above) zone was dominated by Faith Njenga (HC 40), who scored an impressive 42 points.

In the subsidiary categories, Jay Vadgama took home the Longest Drive title among the men as Lydia Mokaya claimed the honors for the ladies.

Precision was also key for the Nearest to Pin winners, with Robert Maina excelling in the men’s category as Elizabeth Njau showcased her prowess to triumph in the ladies’ contest.
