Monday, June 17 has been declared a public holiday to mark Eid-Al-Adha.
Through a gazette notice, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki notified the public of the holiday in line with the Public Holidays Act.
"It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares Monday, June 17, 2024, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid - Al - Adha," the notice stated.
According to the Islamic religion, Eid-ul-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's devotion to Allah and his readiness to sacrifice his son, Ismail.
The celebration also marks the end of the annual Hajj or Pilgrimage to Mecca, celebrated in the final month of the (lunar) Islamic calendar.
