A woman in Starehe Sub-county was forced to quit her marriage after she lost her three-month pregnancy in December following frequent beatings she received from her husband.

Wycliffe Msuso Lumula, according to the court papers, assaulted Linah Makena on March 8 at Mlango Kubwa in Nairobi.

The two met early last year and decided to move in as a couple in February.

Makena said they were living a happy life, although with a few challenges that any other couple would face.

But their marriage started developing serious cracks seven months down the line just after the man learnt that his wife was pregnant. She said that she had conceived in October.

Makena said that Lumula, who seemed not to have welcomed the outcome of their love, started beating her so often until she lost her pregnancy in December.

Sweet-talked

He allegedly took her to Kenyatta National Hospital where she was treated and discharged.

Thereafter, the complainant left her matrimonial home and went to work as a house help in Githunguri. But she said the man managed to sweet-talk her and they got back together.

Three days after they agreed to move back together, Makena said the man told her that he was going out to have a good time with her friend “who took care of me while you were away”.

This angered her and they got into a heated quarrel.

She said the accused left the house at about 7 pm and returned at around 11 pm and attacked her again.

The complainant reported the matter to the police who arrested the man and arraigned him. In court, he denied injuring the complainant.

He was released on a bond of Sh10,000 pending trial on July 2.
