The parenting and pregnancy site BabyCentre has put together a list of names that haven’t been registered by so far in 2017
If you’re having a baby this year and choose the name Frank, Dorothy or Ricky, then you might just be pulling those names back from the brink of extinction, according to data compiled by BabyCentre.
The parenting and pregnancy site has put together a list of 24 names that haven’t been registered by parents so far in 2017, meaning they are well and truly on the endangered list.
These names, including popular 1980s choices Donna, Karen and Ian, are being cast aside by the thousands of mums and dads who have already welcomed babies this year.
Other names that have not seen a single registration in 2017 include Clive, Janice and Gus.
There haven’t been any BabyCentre babies called Cilla so far this year either, but with Cilla: The Musical launching in September, this could all change before the 2017 baby names charts are revealed at the end of the year.
Sarah Redshaw, managing editor at BabyCentre, said: "We see names rise and fall in popularity over the years but some names do fall out of favour completely.
"So if you are looking for a unique name for your baby that won’t be shared with lots of other children then maybe Cilla or Clarence should be on your list."
In 2016, the most popular names for boys were Oliver, Muhammad, Noah, Harry and Jack. For girls, the top five were Olivia, Lily, Sophia, Emily and Amelia.
