Persons Living With Disabilities will be vetted to determine those eligible for a cash transfer programme.
National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Chairman David ole Sankok said only those with severe disabilities will benefit from the Cash Transfer for Persons with Severe Disability.
“We will release the names and contacts of those benefiting from the programme and our staff will conduct a spot check in all regions to ensure the beneficiaries are those who cannot be able to fend for themselves,” said Dr Sankok.
Addressing the Press at the NCPWD offices in Nairobi, Sankok said they will partner with the county governments in vetting the deserving people for grants and cash transfers.
He added the council in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Security and Services was implementing the programme. “The need to provide daily intensive support demands of their parents and guardians or caregivers to remain at home or close to them throughout, hence denying them the opportunity to engage in income generating opportunities,” he said.
“This programme aims to enhance the capacities of households to improve the quality of life with severe disabilities under the care through cash transfers,” he added.
Sankok said they are targeting 27,200 households countrywide in the current financial year.
