One such utility was a Tyford water closet with a flush system that dispenses just four litres of water for the full flush and 2.6 litres for the short flush.
The toilet in the standard water closet uses nine litres with every flush without the option of a long or short flush.
Upgrading to an ecological Tyford-Gelerie flush saves up to six litres of water per flush. An average household flushes the toilet about 5,000 times over 30,000 litres of water annually.
This translates to 60 per cent reduction in water use and significant cost saving for households on water bills.
