Mukuru Kwa Reuben slum is one of the largest informal settlements in Nairobi and more often than not residents of this sprawling slum have had to contend with disease outbreaks contributed by a number of factors including poor sanitation. The residents have depended on a single facility for over 20 years for health services and now the faith-based level 3 hospital has been relieved of the burden of congestion of patients following the launch of Maendeleo Hospital in the slum by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
