Monday Night News: Conservationists on SGR through the park again, 3/10/2016

3rd October, 2016

Conservationists once again held a demonstration to protest against plans to have the standard gauge railway pass through the Nairobi national park. The conservationists backed by residents living along the Nairobi national park’s dispersal areas, say the project will sound a death knell to the existence of the park which is Kenya’s oldest park and the only park in the world in a cosmopolitan area. The protestors gathered outside the KWS headquarters during the demo which took place two weeks after the national environment tribunal issued stop orders against any activity relating to phase two of the project until an appeal by conservationists is heard and determined. The demo comes as the government prepares to launch the second phase of the SGR which will begin with the Nairobi Naivasha section.
