Having been found guilty and convicted for corruption and failure to comply with procurement laws, two of the three senior Nyeri county officials were released from King’ong’o prison after paying the 7.9 million shillings fine. Simon Wachira and John Maina left the prison gates of Kingongo but their counterpart Martin Wamwea who was the finance county executive could not walk to freedom with his co-accused as he had not raised the 7.9 million shillings fine. Chief magistrate john Onyiengo of the anti-corruption court sentenced the trio, Maina, Wachira and Wamwea to serve three year sentences or to pay a fine of 400,000 and to pay back 7.5 million shillings each.
