9th May, 2016

Cytonn investment released today released the first corporate governance index. The index comes on the back drop of the recent irregularities in corporate governance by some of Kenya’s listed companies. According to the index KCB group, Safaricom and Standard Chartered Kenya carry the most comprehensive score ranking above 80% while Kenya Orchards ranks the least at 10.4% in corporate governance. On gender diversity, Barclays Bank Kenya ranked first with a 50% score followed by Safaricom with 44% and Mumias Sugar with 36.3%. Trans-century ranked lowest in terms of ethnic diversity with 87.5% of its employees coming from the same ethnicity. Cytonn investments says good corporate governance and sound professional ethics are essential to well-functioning markets, which in turn protect the interest of the investing public and are key to vibrancy, reducing investor losses and providing a platform for firms and the economy to grow in a sustainable manner
