Human-wildlife conflict in Aberdare Forest
9th January, 2015
Residents of Nyeri county living next to the Aberdare forest have had to live with the wrath of wild animals who prey on livestock. Under the cover of darkness, hyenas, leopards and other animals attack the cows, goats and sheep leaving the residents at a loss on what action to take. An elderly man was recently killed by a buffalo that had escaped from the Aberdare forest. They are now appealing to officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service to take their plight into consideration and award them some plausible compensation as well as stop the wild animals from attacking homesteads. KWS however says the residents are to blame for breaking the fence.
