Ugandan house maid sentenced to four years in jail after found guilty to child torture charges
15th December, 2014
The Ugandan house maid who was caught on camera torturing an eighteen month old baby has been sentenced to four years in jail by a Kampala court.
According to Uganda’s new vision newspaper, Jolly Tumuhiirwe had on Monday apologized to the parents of the child and to the general public. She is reported to have said that she did not know what came over her to commit such an inhumane act. She also pleaded guilty to torture charges. A section of observers had thought that the maid was mentally disturbed to have tortured such a helpless child in a manner likely to kill her. A psychiatric assessment established that Tumuhiirwe was of sane mind. The tortured baby was taken through medical tests after the ordeal and found to be okay.
