Samburu residents plan a camel derby in a bid to attract tourists to the county

The northern circuit has traditionally been left out of the primary tourism circuit because it does not offer either the beach or the safari tourism that kenya is famed for. But as the two areas come under increased competition, the country has been forced to rethink its strategy, and consider initiatives that will increase attention to other parts of the country that have unexplored tourism attractions.and one of these initiatives is the annual maralal camel derby that will be held next week in samburu county. The derby has gained popularity over years, and seen participation from over 16 different countries. The event, which will be held on 28th to the 31st august, targets sports enthusiasts who will be able to take part in camel races that range from amateur to professional, or participate in the other activities that will include a marathon, bike competition, cultural shows, culinary among other cultural exchanges.
