Class two child saved from marriage in Narok South

10th January, 2015

A ten year old girl from Olkinyei in Narok south has been rescued from early marriage by security personnel in the area. The girl who is a standard two pupil at Olarowan primary school had been married off by her father to a 29 year old man. The area chief says that the girl had been married for one day before they rescued her but had not consummated the marriage because a ceremony to formalise the union had not taken place. Her father and husband were arrested while planning for the ceremony. The rescued girl will be taken to talek boarding primary school and will be spending her holidays at the chief’s home.
