Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has launched a fresh attack on the judiciary in the fight against crime.

The CS has at the same time issued a fresh warning to politicians whom he accused of fanning ethnic hatred.

He said the politicians were responsible for violence witnessed during by-elections in Matungu and Nakuru’s London wards.

He warned that the Government would not sit back and watch the politicians take the country to ‘dangerous’ levels.

“Unless we behave differently, we are taking our country to dangerous levels,” said Matiang’i.

And to the Judiciary, he said the courts are frustrating the work of the police.

“We will do our work promptly, tell others to do their work “the CS said at the Kenya School of Government

Matiang’i want the courts to impose heave bail terms on politicians linked to hate speech.

In particular, the CS took issues with the lenient bail terms given to some of the repeat offenders especially politicians accused of engaging in criminal activities.

“Am ready to go beyond the tough talk. As you tell us to do our work, tell others to do theirs” the CS said.

Matiang’i was the chief guest at the launch of the national crime statistic by the National Crime Research Centre.

The event was held at the Kenya School of Government in Kabete.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said the Government was committed to ensure that all citizens are safe.

Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said: “It discourages us as police to see when one is arraigned in court only leaves after paying a fine and we never hear about the matter again.”
