Apology: Editorial cartoon

The Standard Newspaper Logo

In the Friday's edition of The Standard, we published a cartoon which has been perceived to portray the Islamic faith and Muslim community in bad light.

The intention of the cartoonist was to portray the ISIS terrorist group, and may have wrongly used symbols and wordings of the Islamic faith that have nothing to do with the outlawed group. We take this early opportunity to apologise to our Muslim brothers and sisters, and any of our readers, who may have been offended by the cartoon.

The Standard has a policy of being sensitive to religious and cultural sensibilities in all its media platforms.
