Ojode’s brother accused of seeking estate

The legal battle over the estate of late Orwa Ojode took a new twist with the widow and son claiming Ojode’s brother is using his mother to seek a share of the estate.

Mary and her son Andy Ojode, told the court the suit seeking to stop Sh10 million benefits due to them, has been orchestrated by Ojode’s brother, Samuel Awuodi Ojode.

“This suit is the mastermind of my uncle who is using my grandmother to fight me and my mother in a bid to obtain a portion of my late father’s estate for himself,” said Andy in an affidavit filed in court.

Mary in her affidavit told the court that her mother-in-law, Ulda Aloo Ojode is not a dependant of her husband’s estate.

She further said Ojode left behind debts and liabilities amounting to over Sh30 million including for Andy’s school fees that is critically overdue.

Mary claims she and her late husband allowed Ulda to obtain rental income of Sh5,000 from two houses they put up at Ratanga shopping center.

Mary is aggrieved that Ulda has obtained a court order stopping the entire amount of benefits yet she has not stated how much she wants.

Through her lawyer Fred Okeyo, she wants the court to dismiss Ulda’s application on grounds that she is not a dependant of her late husband’s estate.

Ojode’s mother and his widow are engaged in a legal battle over Ojode’s estate.  Mrs Ulda Aloo Ojode has gone to court seeking to stop the National Assembly from processing the benefits and paying the same to the widow.

Ulda’s lawyer Charles Kangati defended Ulda saying she cannot state how much she wants because Mary’s statement from the start indicates that she is not a dependant and deserves nothing.

He accused the widow of omitting Ulda’s name as dependant is a succession suit.
