Opposition gives Ruto ultimatum over abductions

Opposition leaders have given President William Ruto’s government a seven-day ultimatum to release all the people abducted in the recent past or face mass demonstrations.

Led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his DAP-K counterpart Eugene Wamalwa, the politicians said if the government fails to produce the youth allegedly abducted by the State, they will rally youths for a nationwide protest to demand justice for the victims.

“The court has given the government, specifically Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, seven days to produce the missing young people, and we want to tell President Ruto that if the seven days ultimatum lapses without any action, as opposition leaders, we are going to lead young people in the mother of all mass demonstrations to demand justice,” said Wamalwa.

Speaking in Mumias East in Kakamega County during the Peter Salasya Super Cup Tournament, Wamalwa said the leaders would be reaching out for a political formation with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other like-minded leaders to defeat President Ruto come the 2027 general election.

Kalonzo accused President Ruto of using outdated tactics to silence his critics and vowed to lead other like-minded opposition leaders in liberating Kenyans from the chains of the Kenya Kwanza regime.

“Our youth have a right under our Constitution to live in peace without being abducted or intimidated by the use of government machinery. I am urging the Judiciary to bring sanity in the country by protecting the rule of law and Constitution. By next Wednesday, we will go back to the corridors of justice because Kenyans are allowed to picket,” Wamalwa said, adding:

“We are promising the nation that we will not relent in our efforts to liberate this country this year and, for those who have been compromised by this regime, we want to tell them that we will walk and work with the right-thinking people so that we can liberate Kenyans.”

Kalonzo urged members of the United Nations Human Rights Council to suspend Kenya over the abductions being witness in the country.

“Kenya has joined the United Nations Human Rights Council as a member and we want the members of the council to suspend the country and demand the government releases the abducted youth before it is allowed back,” said Kalonzo.

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya accused President Ruto of failing to listen to the Kenyan youth who are demanding accountability from the government.

“We want to tell our President to order the release of the young people who have been abducted,” said Salasya.
