Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has called on President William Ruto to address the escalating protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

Sonko highlighted the widespread discontent and the significant involvement of young people in the demonstrations.

Taking to social media platform X, Sonko expressed his concerns, highlighting the participation of notable figures' children in the protests.

He mentioned that even his own son, as well as the sons of Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri, and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei, had joined the demonstrations.

"Many parents countrywide gave their kids a go-ahead and blessings to join the protests. What does that tell you?" Sonko remarked.

He described witnessing many teenagers from various Nairobi estates heading to town to join the protests. "I personally witnessed a large number of teens, male and female, from all Kanairo estates heading to town because they feel it's their time, it's their era, and it can't be stopped. It was the biggest demo in the history of East Africa," he added.

Sonko criticised some of President Ruto's advisors for their arrogance and misuse of people during campaigns. He called on them to stop their pride and deceptive tactics.

"People in the Statehouse, like Faruk Kibet and other advisors, need to stop their arrogance and misuse of people during campaigns. They should realise that the time for gaining power through lies and fake promises is over. Power lies with the people, not with deceitful tactics," he said.

Quoting Abraham Lincoln, Sonko added, "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

Sonko further urged President Ruto to listen to the concerns of the people and take action.

"My small advice to my good friend His Excellency the President, if this country is in your heart and you took the Bible in Kasarani and said you would protect us Kenyans through the Kenyan Constitution, then return the Finance Bill 2024 back to the sender in Parliament," Sonko wrote.

The protests against the Finance Bill 2024 have resulted in significant unrest, with at least 13 people reported dead due to clashes with law enforcement.

The bill has faced criticism for increasing the cost of living and imposing a heavy economic burden on ordinary Kenyans.
