Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango has been named the National Police Service spokesperson, taking over from Bruno Shioso who has been promoted to Commandant of the National Police Training Campus in Kiganjo.

Resila becomes the second woman to ascend to the spokesperson position at the Police Service after Zipporah Mboroki who served in 2014.

Before her promotion, Resila - a Senior Superintendent, obtained a Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, USA in 2021 and was serving as the Deputy Director of Planning at the Office of the Inspector General of Police.

Previously, she worked as a Criminal Intelligence officer with Interpol at the regional bureau of East Africa.

Her predecessor Shioso has replaced incoming Police IG Japheth Koome in the recent changes announced by the acting Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow. Meanwhile, Philip Ndolo who was the Deputy Commandant at the college has been recalled to the Police Headquarters in Nairobi.

Also affected in the changes is Central Regional Police Commander Manaseh Musyoka who has been moved to Nairobi region in the same capacity, replacing James Mugera who has since retired from the service.

Lydia Ligami has replaced Musyoka in Central as Paul Langat heads to Western region as the Commander to take over from Peris Muthoni, also retired.

Catherine Mugwe is the Staff Officer training at the Police Headquarters in the newest changes announced on Tuesday, November 8.

The changes, police say, are aimed at boosting service delivery in the security sector.
