Police in Nairobi are looking for a man who allegedly stole Sh1.5 million belonging to All Saints Mountain View Church, Kangemi.

The incident occurred on Sunday, October 9 after the day's service.

According to a report filed at the Kangemi Police Station, the funds were to be used in developing the church.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), which has since taken up the matter, said the church's elder John Wainaina and treasurer Elizabeth Njoki discovered that the funds were missing on Monday, October 10.

"They (Wainaina and Njoki) had gone to collect the money, only to find the doors of the cash store area open, which was unusual," said the DCI on Twitter.

"A closer look at the Lord's table, where bread and wine are consecrated, indicated that it had been ransacked. The drawers, where the money had been kept, had also been broken into and the funds stolen," added the DCI.

The two senior church members, thereafter, filed a report at Kangemi Police Station.

Authorities established that the church's surveillance cameras had been disconnected after electricity supply to the church was disabled.

Church members suspect that the worship centre's caretaker, who has since gone missing, is behind the theft.
