An award to recognise organisations and individuals making a positive impact in society has been launched.

The launch spearheaded by the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) on Tuesday in Nairobi marked the 13th edition of the awards.

ICS Chairman Joshua Wambua noted that this year, the organisation will recognise the best-performing counties in the country.

The awards, known as the Champions of Governance (COG) awards, will culminate in a gala night in Nairobi on November 29.

Wambua explained that the awards provide a platform to recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in corporate governance.

He added that they shine a spotlight on organisations and individuals promoting good governance practices.

“The awards were borne out of a clear need to recognise and celebrate organisations that embody the principles of good governance, which form the bedrock of sustainable development, economic growth, and social cohesion,” disclosed Wambua.

He stated that since its inception, the COG award has become a symbol of excellence in governance practices.

Wambua reiterated that ICS remains proud of the role this initiative plays in promoting the highest standards of governance in both public and private sectors. He said that effective governance is the foundation of corporate success and is key to fostering trust and ensuring long-term sustainability.

At the same time, awardees will receive endorsements of their governance credentials from ICS. Wambua added that the process leading up to the awards is thorough and rigorous, ensuring recognition for only the most deserving organisations.

Each year, he said, the institute refines its assessment criteria to align with global governance standards and best practices.

“Our goal is to inspire more organisations to adopt robust governance frameworks that withstand scrutiny and contribute to their success,” he said.

Wambua invited potential sponsors and partners who share the organisation’s vision for advancing good governance.

“Your financial or in-kind support will enhance the reach and impact of this award and ensure that we continue to raise the bar for governance excellence in Kenya and beyond,” he remarked.

He added that support from sponsors and partners will help make this year’s COG award a resounding success.
