Lawyers in Turkana county have called for the prosecution of Kenya Power (KPLC) staff over allegations of stealing Sh207 million diesel intended for the local off grid power stations.

They said businesses have incurred losses due to power outage that has lasted for three months now.

The lawyers have threatened to sue Kenya Power over failure to provide services to its customers in the county.

Residents have staged demonstrations to demand answers from KPLC over the prolonged power outage.

Law Society of Kenya Lodwar representative Shadrack Muyesu said that the residents have been in darkness for three months.

The Auditor General report revealed how Kenya Power employees allegedly stole diesel meant for Turkana stations.

Auditor General Nancy Gathungu said KPLC employees, security guards, and fuel truck drivers allegedly colluded to steal more than 1.1 million liters of diesel valued at Sh207.65 million which was intended for Turkana county off grid power stations.

The report further reveals that the theft took place from October 2021 to December 2023

The residents have appealed to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the KPLC staff.
