Political activist Booker Omole has called on youth to take charge of their future by becoming more politically active, noting the government's response to recent protests has left many young people feeling disenfranchised. Speaking on Sunday, November 10, at Jacaranda Gardens, Omole urged young Kenyans to organise for leadership and rally together for change.
Omole, who also serves as the Communist Party of Kenya Vice-Chairman, criticised the government’s response to anti-government protests, where young demonstrators were reportedly met with arrests and violence. Addressing thousands of supporters, he expressed his frustration with the challenges young Kenyans face today, particularly when it comes to economic and social inequalities.
“The future of our young people has been taken from them,” said Omole. “We need to ensure that Kenya’s youth have the chance to build a country that respects them and values their voices.”
He cited reports of over 70 youth deaths linked to the recent protests, saying young people across the country deserve answers and meaningful support. Omole argued that Kenya’s political system must reflect the needs of all citizens, not just a privileged few.
“Peace in Kenya must be real, not just for the wealthy. Young people need a fair system that truly supports their potential,” he said, receiving cheers from the crowd.
Omole also urged his audience to see beyond tribal divisions, which he said have often been used to sideline pressing issues affecting ordinary Kenyans. Reflecting on Kenya’s history, he observed that tribalism has repeatedly failed to serve citizens, regardless of which community holds power.
“Tribal politics only divide us,” he said. “Kenyatta, Kibaki, and Uhuru all served, but most Kikuyus, for instance, still face the same struggles. It’s time for unity and for young people to come together to demand real change.”
Omole’s remarks come ahead of the Communist Party of Kenya’s National Congress, where he plans to push for youth representation and policy reforms. The Congress is set to bring together leaders from across the globe, all sharing the party’s vision for Kenya’s futur
