Homa Bay residents are set to begin benefitting from the long awaited multibillion development projects in the next three months.

The projects are undertaken by the National Government.

They include construction of an affordable housing project in Homa Bay Town at Sh227, Homa Bay Fish worth 345 million, and administration block and lecture halls at  Tom Mboya  University worth1.2 billion.

In an inspection conducted by the Director of Presidential Delivery Univerty Silvance Osele and Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan and Homa Bay Deputy County Commissioner Charles Mwayaya,  it was discovered that completion of the projects is more than 80 per cent complete.

The other projects which are about to be completed include construction of Sh600m Homa Pier whose construction is  72 per cent complete.

On roads, construction of the Sh1.23 billion Rusinga Ring Road in Mbita Suba Mbita Sub –county is 65 per cent complete. The road is 19 km long.

Speaking during the inspection, Osele said most of the projects will be commissioned for use in March next year.

“We have inspected the projects and noted that they are being implemented well. Most of them will be completed in the next three months. We are happy that two people have booked houses at the affordable housing project,” Osele said.

He said the National government was committed to transforming the lives of Homa Bay residents.

Osele said the Government is currently undertaking projects worth about Sh15 billion shillings in Homa Bay. He mentioned Oyugis and Kendu Bay water projects as some of the projects which have been completed and are waiting last mile connectivity.

“The National Government is committed to improving the lives of Homa Bay residents through implementation of the development projects. Let residents be ready to begin using these projects,” Osele said.

He clarified that the projects which fall under functions of the county government will be handed over to the county upon completion.

The other projects include Sh2.9 billion Mbita – Magunga- Sori road whose construction is ongoing. The 74 km road is expected to open the entire Suba region along the shore of Lake Victoria for development.

Another project is Kadel – Kanyadhiang’ – Alara road which stalled but has been awarded a new contractor.

Lilan told all contractors undertaking the work to do quality work. He said anyone found doing substandard work will not have easy time.

“We want contractors undertaking these projects to do quality work. Let everyone ensure there is value for money,” Lilan said.

He expressed hope that most of the projects were within the timelines for completion.

The administrator said the government was addressing challenges affecting some of the projects to ensure they are completed at the right time.

“Implementation of all projects is going on well except a few of them which had challenges but the government has put measures to address the challenges,” Lilan said.
