Covid-19: Kenya records 1,372 new infections in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 1,372 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 5,635 raising the country's caseload to 263,707.

In a statement on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 24.4 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,930,320.

Out of the new patients, 673 are male, whereas 699 are female, with the youngest carrier being a five-month-old child and the oldest aged 90.

Of the new cases, 112 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 836 cases Kiambu 123, Nakuru 68, Machakos 49, Kericho 44, Kajiado 41, Uasin Gishu 37, Mombasa 35, Murang’a 18, Busia 14, Kwale 13, Kakamega and Siaya 11 cases each, Kisumu and Nyeri 9 cases each, Migori 8, West Pokot 6, Kitui 5, Tharaka Nithi, Narok and Meru 4 cases each, Embu and Laikipia 3 cases each, Baringo, Isiolo, Nandi and Taita Taveta 2 cases each, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Mandera, Kilifi, Nyandarua, Kisii and Homa Bay 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll still stands at 5,353 after no death was reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 249,296 after 74 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 24 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 50 patients are from health facilities across the country.

Of the total recoveries, 201,149 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 48,147 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 278 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,996 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fourteen (14) patients are in the ICU, seven of them are on ventilatory support while another seven are on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 64 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 60 of them in the general wards while four patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has so far administered 8,861,039 Covid-19 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 5,288,176 have been partially vaccinated while 3,572,863 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 56.3 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 13.1 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.
