Covid-19: Over 100,000 people vaccinated in a day as 42 test positive

Kenya on Thursday recorded 110,909 vaccines administered, the highest number in a single day 64,123 being first doses while 46, 786  are second doses.

This according to the Ministry of Health was attributed to a new directive issued by the government.

Kenya has so far administered 6,811,043 Covid-19 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 4,207,502 have been partially vaccinated while 2,603,541 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 57.2 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 9.6 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.

Covid-19 numbers

Kenya also recorded 42 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 4,971 raising the country's caseload to 254,904.

In a statement on Friday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 0.8 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,821,144.

Out of the new patients, 21 are male, whereas 21 are female, with the youngest carrier being a 13-year-old, and the oldest aged 95.

Of the new cases, five are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 11 cases, Uain Gishu 5, Kericho 3, Kiambu, Makueni, Marsabit, Mombasa, Nakuru, Narok, and Tharaka Nithi 2 cases each, Bomet, Embu, Garissa, Kajiado, Kisii, Nyamira, Kisumu, Kitui and Kakmega 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll is still at 5,333 after no death was recorded from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 248,085 after 15 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 13 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while two patients are from health facilities across the country.

Of the total recoveries, 200,336 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 47,749 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 358 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 971 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Sixteen (16) patients are in the ICU, seven of whom are on ventilatory support and nine on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 104 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen all of them in the general wards while one patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
