Residents of Apida in Migori County have resolved to chasing away twilight girls  operating within the estate.

The residents claim that the sex workers were conducting their business within the residential area where people lived with their families.

According to a section of residents who registered their displeasure, the activities of the twilight girls were setting a bad example to children growing up in the area.

“We have families living here and removing these sex workers twill protect the children from getting into immorality,” Jacob Ouma, a resident said.

Residents lamented saying that the twilight girls didn’t have respect and did their activities in public.

Ouma claimed that the twilight girls even tried to lure people’s husbands when they passed near them.

“Their mode of dressing is not pleasing and they don’t have respect when they get drunk,” Ouma said.

Mark Otieno, a resident said Apida had turned into the Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah.

“As a resident, I am happy that today they are being removed from this area,” Otieno said.

He claimed that a man could not just pass within the corridors of the estate comfortably without being signaled by the twilight girls.

Jared Omondi, another resident of the estate, said they have been longing for such a time when the twilight girls would be removed from the area.

He expressed his joy saying that they would no longer have sex workers in the area.

“They need to know that they are not needed here because this is a residential area,” Omondi said.

Elizabeth Atieno, a woman who has been living in the area with her children, said they were not happy with what they used to see in the area.

“They were doing their work but we were not pleased with how it was being done. They used to target our children and even lure our husbands. They did not have respect,” she remarked, adding that their removal from the area has made them happy.

She claimed that the twilight girls would also target their visitors.

The residents said their removal from the area would help bring sanity.

The twilight girls had been given a notice to vacate the area by January 5 but were still reluctant.

George Okello, the Nyasare Sub-location chief confirmed that residents from Apida area held demonstrations as they wanted commercial sex workers who parade the estate to exit.

“I had to rush to the area and ensure that there was no chaos,” Mr Okello said.
