That nasty Lupita-Kenya beef

Features

Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita's dress at the Golden Globe Awards attracted global admiration

“Who did you hang out with last night? Who was cute? Who was ‘fugly’? Do tell,” red carpet host Matt Siegel asked Kenya Moore, she of the Real Housewives of Atlanta fame.

“Lots of people who were so cool. Taylor Swift was so sweet but Lupita Nyong’o refused to take pictures after two movies,” she mocked, throwing a jibe at Lupita, the real Kenyan. It was the Golden Globes after-party drama that still has fans wagging. And don’t be fooled, this may not be over any time soon.

“You called Lupita out, honey! Kenya don’t play. Did you shade her,” Matt chipped on...and then the whole world took it up. Did Lupita really snub Kenya Moore or this is just another case of the Real Housewife of Atlanta seeking drama? Besides, we all know that she likes to keep the drama poppin’.

Is it that Lupita wasn’t feeling her vibe or, as someone joked, is it that Lupita had no idea who Kenya was, since she has only lived in the States for a few years and may not be familiar with reality TV in between winning an Oscar and other awards?”(Well, that could sound like hate right there, eer!)

Kenya Moore claims that the 12 Years A Slave star snubbed her after she asked to snap a picture with the award-winning actress. She sounded agitated as she told the story to the world. When asked if the tried to block (throw shade) Lupita on the red carpet she said: “No, I was a huge fan! There were 1000 A-listers being humble, it was disappointing that’s all. I want to always stay humble”.

Of course, the little ‘accident’ did not deter the in-the-spotlight Kenyan girl from enjoying her reign. Strutting it in a Giambattista Villa gown and a pair of glasses she showed love to her fellow film bigwigs including The Theory of Everything actor Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne. Since then, the incident has sparked sharp reactions from her fans who have come to her defence. “No one is obligated to take a picture with her (Kenya Moore). Everyone has a mental list of who they will and won’t take picture with, even Kenya. She’s just salty as hell to find out she’s on Lupita’s. For Kenya to try and tear down her accolades because of it, is what’s wrong in this scenario. Lupita may have only been in two movies but which one of Kenya’s minor role blockbusters or straight to DVD movies has she ever won a prestigious award for,” one April Mahone quipped.

“All of you act like though Lupita’s sh** ain’t stinking. It’s as simple as that. Once you are approached as a fan to take a picture the proper thing a movie star should do is to oblige,” another fan commented. “Wise decision Lupita,” the applause went on.

“Oh Kenya! Start by Googling Lupita, then check her record and temperature, then try again. Those antics of hers are beginning to pay rent...,” another joked.

“I think it’s because Lupita has a completely different image than Kenya. Some celebrities choose not to be associated with people with an image such as Kenya’s. I don’t believe for one second that Lupita didn’t know who Kenya was,” the ranting tolled.

Kenya has since changed the story saying she never asked Lupita to take a photo with her but with a friend. “Lol, am still proud of her,” she posted.

Well, Lupita is Kenyan! Moore? Not so much! We are bringing this back home and so, what is your take?
