COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and his wife, Mary Kilobi, are celebrating the arrival of their first child together.
The 40-year-old KTN News anchor, currently on sabbatical leave, welcomed a baby boy, Atwoli Junior, after seven years of marriage.
Kilobi and Atwoli’s relationship began in 2016, leading to their traditional wedding in 2018. Their marriage sparked controversy after Kilobi’s ex-fiancé, Jack Wanami Wamboka, accused Atwoli of being a "wife snatcher."
Despite the public uproar, Kilobi went ahead with the marriage, becoming Atwoli’s third wife.
Speaking about their relationship in a past interview, Kilobi revealed that Atwoli’s persistence won her over.
"He proposed to me, but I said no. But he insisted, saying that he was serious and would wait for even 1,000 years for me to say ‘yes’ and marry him. But I have now realised that age should never be a key consideration in a relationship. Atwoli is that guy who is never bothered about mundane issues that sometimes break up marriages," she said.
Kilobi stated that she had no issue being in a polygamous marriage and dismissed claims that she married Atwoli for money.
The overjoyed journalist shared that Atwoli was not present during their son’s birth as he was in Geneva at the time.
However, she confirmed that he was full of joy upon receiving the news.
Atwoli, now 76, has other 17 children from his previous marriages to Jenifer Khainz and Roselinda Simiyu.
Kenyans took to social media to congratulate the couple, with one Facebook user writing, “76 years and still strong. Congratulations to them.”
The couple has yet to share more details about their newborn.
