Safaricom curates 18-hour concert to mark M-PESA 18th anniversary

Safaricom is set to celebrate M-Pesa’s 18th anniversary with an electrifying 18-hour concert at Uhuru Park later today, Friday 21st.

The event, which kicks off at 2pm, will bring together some of Kenya’s biggest artistes, DJs, and emcees in what promises to be an unforgettable showcase of music and culture.

The concert is more than just a birthday celebration it’s a tribute to the millions of Kenyans who have embraced M-PESA, transforming it from a simple money transfer service into a financial powerhouse that has reshaped the economy.

Safaricom CEO Dr Peter Ndegwa said this milestone is an opportunity to appreciate and celebrate Kenyans for making M-Pesa a success.

“This concert is our way of celebrating the profound impact M-Pesa has had on the lives of Kenyans and expressing our deepest gratitude to every Kenyan who has been part of this incredible journey over the last 18 years. As the biggest supporter of Kenya’s creative economy, we look forward to creating a platform where Kenyans can showcase their talents and earn from their craft,” said Dr. Ndegwa.

The 18-hour extravaganza will feature non-stop entertainment from more than 18 top DJs, including DJ Grauchi, CNG, DJ Dream, Kriss Darlin, DJ Kalonje, DJ Redbone, DJ IV, Sir M, Mista C, G-Money, Suraj, DJ Krowbar, DJ Slim D, DJ Euphoric, DJ Maurice Pro, DJ Xclusive, DJay Daffy, MC Gogo, DJ Moh Spice, DJ Andre, DJ Nijo, MGM, and DJ Moz. The decks will be backed by some of Kenya’s biggest emcees, such as MC Kibunja, Gudah Man, Kwambox, Tallia Oyando, Lion and Mbusi Deh, Azeezah, Lotan, MC Hype Ballo, and Willy Tuva.

Adding to the excitement, some of Kenya’s most celebrated artistes will take the stage, including Karura Voices, Muringe, Kodong Klan, Njerae, Mejja, Jua Cali, Femi One, and Khaligraph Jones. Attendees can expect a thrilling mix of hip-hop, reggae, gengetone, and afro-pop performances.

Dance enthusiasts will also be treated to performances by Alfa House and The Cluster dance crews, ensuring that the energy remains high throughout the event.

While the beats will keep the crowd moving, the event will also feature interactive exhibits showcasing M-PESA’s evolution and impact over the years. Attendees will have the chance to participate in engaging activities and connect with the broader M-PESA community.

Entry to the concert will be through the purchase of a Sh20 M-Pesa birthday bundle via the M-Pesa App.
