Eldoret man who set up illegal police station reveals plans to set up dispensary, athletics camp

Eldoret businessman Collins Leitich, better known as Chepkulei, has revealed grand plans to establish an athletics camp and a dispensary.

The controversial figure, whose name has been on everyone’s lips, shared his ambitious vision, insisting that his only goal is to uplift the community.

“The next thing I will do is build an athletics camp to ensure we have more athletes and help them get international races. We will create a proper training facility to support them. We can even build a private hospital there,” he stated confidently in a Facebook Live.

But amid his grand aspirations, Chepkulei took a moment to defend himself against the wave of criticism following revelations that he had set up an unauthorised police post.

Dismissing claims that he is a politician, he maintained that he is just a regular Kenyan trying to make a difference.

“Mimi ni hustler. Mimi ni mtu nauza mayai nyumbani. I am just a small person trying to make things work,” he said.

Addressing the illegal police station, Chepkulei admitted that while the facility was not yet legal, efforts were underway to meet the necessary requirements.

“It’s not legal, but we are working towards that. It hasn’t been operational for six months as claimed; it’s only been five days. We are cooperating with authorities to make it legal,” he explained, brushing off allegations that the facility had police cells.

According to him, the situation was being blown out of proportion.

He further urged leaders to bring development to the grassroots, arguing that his initiative was meant to complement government efforts.

“We are helping the government. Those tarnishing my name by calling me OCS should stop. I have not run this police station for as long as you claim,” he said.

Ironically, despite defending his actions, Chepkulei advised Kenyans against setting up their own police stations, urging them to follow the correct procedures.

In an exclusive interview with The Standard, Leitich was pressed about widely circulated videos showing him with police escorts and seemingly living large. His response?

“No one is rich. Even the president is still looking for money. This is my private life,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, National Police Service spokesperson Michael Muchiri confirmed that while there were official plans to establish a police post in the area, Chepkulei had not followed the correct legal process.
