Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba or Tuface, has confirmed his separation from his wife Annie Idibia, ending one of Nigeria’s most iconic celebrity unions.
Married since 2012, the couple shares two daughters and has long been seen as a symbol of resilience in the entertainment industry.
The announcement first surfaced in a now-deleted Instagram post, where the African Queen hitmaker revealed that he and Annie had been separated for some time and had begun divorce proceedings.
While confusion followed as the post vanished, 2Baba later addressed fans directly in a live video, stating, “No one hacked my account. I said what I said. I come in peace.”

This revelation has sent shockwaves across the continent, with fans expressing disbelief over the end of a relationship that had weathered several storms, including public controversies and personal challenges.
Their lavish 2013 wedding in Dubai was one of the most celebrated events in Nigerian pop culture, and their love story was immortalised in the African Queen music video, where Annie played 2Baba’s love interest.
The couple’s social media activity further confirmed the split, as they unfollowed each other on their respective platforms. This move backed up 2Baba’s statement and intensified public speculation.
Renowned media personality Toke Makinwa, a close friend of Annie, took to social media to express her support. While acknowledging the need to leave unhealthy relationships, Makinwa criticised the timing of 2Baba’s announcement.
“Nobody is asking anybody to stay in a situation that's not serving them, but why bring this online now?” she questioned. Makinwa vowed to stand by Annie, hinting that the public knows little about the complexities behind the scenes.
Annie had remained silent about the separation but recently opened up on the reality show Young, Famous & African, where she discussed her struggles, including a miscarriage and the challenges of being married to a global superstar with a history of high-profile relationships.
2Baba, credited as a pioneer of Afrobeats and a global trailblazer for artists like Wizkid and Burna Boy, has promised to hold a press conference to shed more light on the situation. While the music icon seeks to tell his side of the story, the continent watches as a beloved love story comes to an unexpected and emotional end.
