Celebrated Kenyan trumpeter Mackinlay Music is set to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest trumpet performance – a gruelling 24-hour non-stop concert.

This ambitious feat, taking place at Geco Café in Nairobi on January 31, 2025, aims to push the boundaries of human endurance and inspire artistes worldwide.

Mackinlay, known for his transformative work in music education and youth mentorship, views this attempt as more than just a performance. It is a personal journey of self-discovery, a testament to human potential, and a call to action for creatives to pursue their wildest dreams.

This record-breaking attempt has been meticulously planned over the past six months.

“This attempt is more than just a performance,” he says. “It’s a journey of self-discovery, a testament to human potential, and an opportunity to inspire creatives to test the boundaries of what’s possible.”

The attempt seeks to push the limits of human capability and creativity. Mackinlay aims to inspire artistes and audiences worldwide with the message, “No human is limited,” a philosophy popularised by Kenyan marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge.

During the 24-hour music marathon, he plans to collaborate with a diverse group of musicians and bands, curating a unique repertoire that reflects his artistic journey and passion for storytelling.

Under the guidance of a fitness trainer, Mackinlay has undergone a rigorous training programme, including outdoor sessions and unique challenges, to prepare his body and mind for this demanding feat.

The celebrated trumpeter and entrepreneur is the founder of several successful ventures, including the Nairobi Horns Project, Afrolect Jazz, and Afrolect Academy. He is also a dedicated advocate for music education and creative excellence.

As a versatile artiste, Mackinlay has graced stages across the globe, performing as a solo artiste, leading the award-winning Nairobi Horns Project, and collaborating with renowned Kenyan pop artists such as Sauti Sol, Jua Cali, and Bensoul.

His extensive musical contributions include producing and directing major events such as International Jazz Day and the Madaraka Festival.

He is also involved in curating live music at Geco Café – a buzzing hub for Kenyan artistes.

A seasoned TV personality, Mackinlay has worked on Coke Studio Africa and currently serves as the Executive Producer of The Live Room Show.
