It all started with a viral video of a lone protestor in a blue jacket who is seen dancing the 'Anguka Nayo' dance.He was in between what looks like a stand off between police and Gen Z protesters in August this year.The song by Wadagliz was the talk of town during the anti-finance bill protests.At the time President William Ruto not only stopped the finance bill debate,he also fired all his cabinet secretaries.Anguka Nayo quickly became the anthem to the fall of the high and mighty Cabinet Secretaries, many of whom flaunt money while majority of Kenyan youth struggle with joblessness and high cost of living.
B for Brian Chira.
The late influencer Brian Chira's death trend in Kenya for a while this year. The popular TikToker died in a road accident on March 31 at only 23 years old. Despite Chira's controversial personality and troubled life, his death brought together a large following of fans who contributed to his funeral fund and attended his burial. However, the funeral turned chaotic, with thousands of fans overwhelming the village and causing disruptions. Nonetheless, his burial was a buzz for quite sometime.
C for Cera Imani
Influencer Faith Waithera, popularly known as Cera Imani, was a trending topic for weeks following her much-publicised relationship with businessman Khalif Kairo. The two broke up later in the year and left netizens wondering.Khalif Kairo is currently rumored to be dating Maria Wavinya.
D for DP impeachment.
This topic trended because former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is the first deputy President to be impeached just two years after taking office. Gachagua fell out with President William Ruto, leading to his ouster from office. The President then nominated Kindiki Kithure for the post.
E for Engonga Baltazar.
Baltasar Ebang Engonga, an official in Equatorial Guinea took the internet by a storm after hundreds of explicit videos featuring him were leaked. Engonga, a nephew of the country’s long-serving president, Teodoro Obiang, was arrested for corruption before the videos surfaced. In the videos,Engonga is seen having sexual encounters with women, many of whom are part of Equatorial Guinea's political elite.
F for Femicide cases.
In 2024, lots of women have died in Kenya. Some have received justice but others have not. In September, Ugandan athlete and Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei died after a man she knew set her on fire. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the injuries as she was receiving treatment. Dickson Ndiema set the athlete ablaze over land ownership. Her attacker also died after sustaining injuries during the attack. However,she is not the only woman who has been killed this year. Several cases of young women being killed in air BNBs have been reported this year.
G for Gen Z and Maandamano
Dressed in stylish casual clothes, disgruntled youths took to the streets in August to reject the finance bill. Armed with smartphones and placards, Generation Z made history by assembling to oppose the government's proposed finance bill. The protests took place in different parts of the country. It was so intense that they managed to get into the Parliament building and burned some part of it. Despite the monumental uprising, there were a lot of casualties. Scores of people died while others were arrested.
J for Jahmby Koikai.
Radio presentor and Media Personality Njambi Koikai also known as Jahmby succumbed from endometriosis complications on June 3. The vibrant Fyah Mummah Jahmby brought a spark of happiness and joy to her fans whenever she held the microphone. Her shows will forever be remembered by her fans and the world in general. Her burial was packed to capacity with her fans all around to pay their respects in their own way.
K for Kasongo
The term "Kasongo" exploded in popularity across Kenya due to its humorous use in online discourse. The origin lies in a popular Congolese song by Super Mazembe. However, Kenyan internet users creatively repurposed the term to satirically critique perceived government inefficiencies or shortcomings.

M for Mapangalee
"Mapangalee" is a new dance style currently making rounds on social media platforms in Kenya. The dance style has taken over Tik Tok challenges and dominating dance floors across the country. The dance was invented by popular Reggae MC Zendiambo, who, in a snippet of the song is seen dancing the style accompanied by other dancers. The term "Mapangalee" is derived from Swahili word "panga" which means machete. Some Kenyans love the dance style while others are disturbed by it's sinister connotations.
N for Nkululeko Ndlamini
It was an action-packed weekend and one for the fitness fraternity’s books. Fitness sensation and the ‘King of Squats’, Nkululeko Dlamini, came to Kenya and hosted a showdown at an event dubbed the King Fitness Explosion Challenge, held at the Waterfront Mall, Karen, on Saturday, September 21.40-year-old Nkululeko Dlamini was the talk of town due to his lessons on growing bigger glutes. Dlamini expressed his love for Kenya during the event and even quizzed the crowd with trivia questions about himself for a prize.
O for OG 's Mansion.
Mbona” hitmaker and rapper Khaligraph Jones was trending on Kenya's social media platform after unveiling his prestigious mansion on his Instagram page. The luxurious home is located in Karen, Nairobi, and netizens have compared it to a mall due to its size. In a video posted on his Instagram, Khaligraph showcased a room with a large shelf of glamorous shoes and chic caps.

Adidja Azim Palmer ,popularly known as Vybz Kartel is now a free man. He was released from prison after 13 years in prison. This year,the Jamaica Court of Appeal voted unanimously not to have a retrial in the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, which led to the dancehall star’s release along with his three co-defendants, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John.The late Clive Williams' body was never found and Vybz Kartel was convicted and put behind bars back in 2014.
