Malava MP Moses Malulu Injendi has reached out to Co-operatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya to give him tips on how to be a polygamous man and take care of many women.
The bearded, dark and tall third-time MP, who is known for putting on a large rosary with a visible cross, has one wife. But he is contemplating joining the polygamy club.
Speaking in Likuyani, Kakamega County on November 18 during a coffee farmers sensitisation forum attended by Oparanya and several local leaders, Malulu first praised the former Kakamega Governor as a performer in leadership, before pulling a surprise that left attendees in laughter by asking him for secrets to successful polygamy.
“To be sincere, as an MP and a person, I admire Oparanya. He was the best-performing MP when he represented the people of Butere.
He was also the best minister in Mwai Kibaki’s administration as minister for planning, not forgetting he has been the best-performing governor for the entire 10 years,” said Malulu.
He went on: “Oparanya has been number one in all things. I admire you, but my senior Oparanya, I am driving one car (wife), and I know for you, you’re driving many cars (wives), therefore, the only thing I need from you is to teach me how to have more wives, even if I won’t have three or more like you, but let me at least have two wives.”
Dress code
Malulu added that Oparanya is an inspiring leader who many in public service can aspire to be like.
“Oparanya is always top in everything he does. He is the best at being neat, and putting on clothes, and the choice of his dress code is undoubtedly the best. Even today he is the smartest person in this event, going by the sharp suit he is wearing,” noted Malulu, throwing the crowd into prolonged laughter.
The lawmaker said he was impressed by what the CS has done in the past. He also praised him for removing hurdles that had prevented MPs from accessing Uwezo Funds.
“As legislators, we have been having difficulties receiving money under the Uwezo Fund and when our CS Oparanya came into power and we held a meeting with him in August, I am happy to announce that we have already received almost Sh400 million,” said Malulu.
He added: “Today he has also led his team from the ministry in sensitising our people to grow coffee so that they make more money and come out of poverty because he has calculated and established that coffee farming is going to uplift the lives of our people and it is the best thing for our community.”
Many will be waiting to see whether Malulu is serious about his desire to have more than one wife.
Most Kenyan politicians do not go public about their marriages. But the former Kakamega Governor has not shied away from parading his women.
Wives unleashed
Four months ago, during his thanksgiving ceremony at Mabole Primary School in Butere, a function that was attended by President William Ruto, a host of governors, MPs and MCAs, Oparanya amused the gathering when he unleashed his wives.
The CS tickled the crowd when he asked his three wives to stand up for introduction.
The highlight was the introduction of Sharon Ambetsa, a tall, light-skinned woman who he referred to as his latest wife who takes care of his wardrobe.
“Those (wives) who have managed to grace this occasion welcome to the podium for the introduction. Sharon Oparanya is the one taking care of my wardrobe and she is my youngest.
My second wife is Tabitha Ambetsa, a teacher and Priscilla is my first wife,” said Oparanya amid laughter from the crowd.
During his first welcoming party at his Karen home in Nairobi, Oparanya acknowledged Priscilla as the matriarch of the family and emphasised the vital role she plays.
“This is the first lady, the foundation of this home. This is the woman I started life with. The others have come along because this one has groomed and cared for me and she is from Busia,” said Oparanya.
“I am deeply grateful to her for protecting me and this entire family. In my absence, she is in charge,” he added.
Interestingly at Karen, Oparanya introduced Sharon as his second wife.
“She ensures that we are well taken care of and that I am in good health. Her name is Sharon Wakhu Oparanya, and she resides in Runda. If you hear I am in Runda, that is where I am,” said Oparanya.
The CS concluded his remarks with a query, “I wonder if I have forgotten anyone” eliciting laughter from the crowd.
During an interview with KTN Home sometimes back, Oparanya said his father was the best tailor and taught him to have a taste for finer things in life, and that is why he is always wearing suits tailored to perfection.
