Meta has announced two new ways for eligible creators in Kenya to monetise their videos on Facebook. The new features, In-Stream Ads and Ads on Facebook Reels, will allow creators to earn money by sharing their original content and engaging with their audience.

Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Meta in Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey, expressed excitement about the expansion, stating, "We’re inspired by the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others, and bring people together. This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry in Kenya to earn money while setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop shop for all creators."

The In-Stream Ads can appear before, during, or after a video, whether the content is live-streamed or pre-recorded.

These ads include several types: Pre-roll Ads that play before a video starts, Mid-roll Ads that appear during the video, Image Ads that are static images displayed beneath the content, and Post-roll Ads that are shown after the video ends.

Meanwhile, Ads on Facebook Reels are integrated into the short video format, allowing creators to earn based on how well their Reels perform.

To qualify for these monetisation options, creators must meet specific criteria. They must be at least 18 years old and have over 30,000 followers.

Additionally, they must have accumulated over 1 million minutes of watch time in the past 60 days and have at least 5 videos published on their page.
