Congolese songstress Mbilia Bel will perform at the Pan African Rhumba Festival at Carnivore on November 2.

The evergreen songstress, who will kick off the festive season, arrived in the country on Tuesday accompanied by her band.

The event, that has Standard Group as the media partner, brings together a rich cultural tapestry on the continent and incredible talents in the music industry.

“Mbilia Bel is ready for another round of entertainment in a country she regards as her next home,” said promoter Jans Nsana.

Known for her powerful voice and captivating stage presence, Mbilia Bel has enchanted audiences around the globe.

Among her favourite songs are ‘Nakei Nairobi’ (I’m going to Nairobi), ‘Esio Wapi’ and ‘Kadanse Mudanda’.

Her music transcends borders, capturing the essence of African spirit and resilience. Mbilia Bel performed with Afrisa International of the late Tabu Ley Rochearue between 1982 and 1987.

Nsana said the event will also mark the 35th anniversary of the late Franco Luambo Luanzo Makiadi who died on October 12, 1989.

Mbilia will be joined by the legendary Bana OK Jazz, an offshoot of the legendary TP OK Jazz Orchestra of the late Franco. Bana OK are led by Manda Chante after the death of its former leader Simarro Massiya in 2019.

“The Pan African festival is more than just a concert. It’s a celebration of unity, culture and community. It’s an opportunity to connect with friends and family, and share the joy of music as they embrace the rich heritage of our continent,” said DJ Darius who will be among the entertainers.

A line up of talented DJs will engage revellers with tracks that celebrate Africa’s musical traditions.

“I’m heading to Carnivore to have fun as we try to match what we did several years back when we were still young men. Hopefully, it should be better,” said rhumba fan Maurice Alloice Odhiambo.

Traditional cuisines will also be on offer as rhumba fans explore local crafts while engaging with vibrant cultural displays. This festival is also a platform for dialogue, understanding and forging of new friendships.

Nsana appealed to rhumba fans to turn up in large numbers. The charges are Sh5,000 for VIP seats and Sh2,000 for regular. Gates will be opened at 6pm.
