A total of 126 beauty and medical spas, along with 34 plastic surgery centers, are set to undergo a comprehensive assessment to ensure they meet the required standards for safe and high-quality care.

Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni announced on Monday that the inspections aim to confirm that the facilities adhere to safety guidelines, ethical practices, and are staffed by qualified professionals.

"Facilities that fail to meet these standards will face strict penalties, including possible closure and legal action," Muthoni stated.

This initiative comes in the wake of the death of Lucy Wambui Ng'ang'a, following a botched plastic surgery procedure at Body by Design clinic.

"We are committed to strengthening regulatory measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The State Department will continue monitoring and enforcing standards in healthcare delivery across the country to protect the wellbeing of all Kenyans," Muthoni added.

Last week, Muthoni directed the Kenya Health Professional Oversight Authority (KHPOA) to submit a report of Body by Design within 30 days.
