Kajiado county government plans to spend over Sh1.6 billion on the Health sector, making the department the biggest beneficiary in this year's Sh6.4 billion Budget.
According to Deputy Governor Paul Ntiati, the bulk of the money will be spent on construction of more health centres, purchasing of drugs for various hospitals and hiring of more doctors and nurses.
"We also plan to refurbish Kajiado County Referral Hospital that has been in pathetic condition,'' said Mr Ntiati, when he launched the 2015-2018 Kenya Health Sector Strategic and Investment Plan, to help in accelerate universal healthcare in the county.
He said the strategic plan will guide the health department in delivering accessible quality health services to the residents.
"This particular plan will help us base our health services delivery on scientifically proven methods, using modern technology, to ensure efficiency and effectiveness,'' said the deputy governor.
At the same time, more than 7,000 bright students from poor families will benefit from a Sh65 million bursary launched by the county government on Saturday.
The beneficiaries are students in secondary schools, tertiary institutions and universities.
Boys have been specifically considered after a reports that they often drop out of school to herd cattle, according to Governor David Nkedianye.
''We plan to construct more schools, so that we can take in as many students as possible,'' said Mr Nkedianye.
