Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o joyfully celebrated Faith Kipyegon’s triumph in the women’s 1500m race at the Athlos NYC meet on Friday, 26 September.
The event, held at New York City’s Icahn Stadium, was a significant occasion where Kipyegon ended her 2024 season with a win, cheered on by a loud and packed audience.
Nyong’o, best known for her Oscar-winning performance in 12 Years a Slave, was seen enthusiastically supporting Kipyegon during the race.
As Kipyegon crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 4:04.79, beating Ethiopian athlete Diribe Welteji, Nyong’o was spotted cheering loudly.
Later, she shared a video of herself on Instagram, excitedly celebrating her fellow Kenyan's victory.

The women’s-only track event was organised by Reddit co-founder and Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian. He also praised Kipyegon and Nyong’o for their energy and contributions to the event.
