Covid-19: Kenya records 156 cases, five deaths

Kenya has so far administered 4,482,179 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 3,280,011 have been partially vaccinated while 1,202,168 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 35.1 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 4.4 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.

Covid-19 numbers

Kenya also recorded 156 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 4,408 raising the country's caseload to 251, 959.

In a statement on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 3.5 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,635,120.

Out of the new patients, 91 are male, whereas 65 are female, with the youngest carrier being an eight-month-old child, and the oldest aged 87.

Of the new cases, two are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nakuru leads with 39 cases, Meru 23, Nairobi 20, Kakamega 9, Kericho 8, West Pokot 6, Kiambu 5, Garissa and Bungoma 4 cases each, Baringo, Kajiado, Tharaka Nithi, Turkana and Nandi 3 cases each, Busia, Kirinyaga, Kitui, Mombasa, Murang’a, Siaya and Tana River 2 cases each, Vihiga, Kwale, Lamu, Marsabit, Migori, Taita Taveta, Homa Bay, Nyandarua and Isiolo 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll is still at 5,215 after five patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 245,178 after 101 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 71 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 30 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 198,071 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 47,107 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 596 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,582 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Thirty-one (31) patients are in the ICU, 18 of whom are on ventilatory support and 13 on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 180 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 177 of them in general wards and three in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
