Some 170 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 4,648 tested. The positivity rate is now at 3.7 per cent.

From the cases, 166 are Kenyans while four are foreigners. There were 88 women and 82 men.

The youngest is an 11-month-old child while the oldest is 97 years.

The total confirmed positive cases are now 251,483 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,617,700.

In terms of county distribution; Nairobi was at 35, followed by Marsabit 25, Meru 13, Nakuru 9, Kiambu 8, Kakamega 6, Uasin Gishu 6, Murang’a 6, Baringo 4, Narok 4, Nyandarua 4, Laikipia 4, Siaya 4, Makueni 4, Garissa 3, and Kericho 3.

Today 213 patients recovered from the disease with 111 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme, while 102 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 244,746 of whom 197,772 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 46,974 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said three patients have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative deaths to 5,198.

A total of 661 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,668 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme. Thirty-seven patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 19 of whom are on ventilatory support and 18 on supplemental oxygen.

As of October 12, a total of 4,273,664 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3,183,079 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,090,585.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 32.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was four per cent.

The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033 by June next year, Kagwe said.

Nairobi county is the highest with 31 per cent of its population receiving the first dose while Marsabit county is the least with 1.3 per cent.

People who are due for their second dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine have been advised to visit the nearest vaccination centre and not necessarily at the post where the first dose was administered.

“This move will ensure that overcrowding does not happen at the few facilities which are offering vaccination services. The list of vaccination centers is available on our website,” the CS added.
