Covid-19: 308 recover, nine die as 91 test positive

Kenya has so far administered 3,874,083 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 2,944,584 have been partially vaccinated while 929,499 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 31.6 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.4 per cent.

Kenya also recorded 91 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,435 raising the country's caseload to 250, 114

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 2.7 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,572,609.

Out of the new patients, 50 are male, whereas 41 are female, with the youngest carrier being a three-year-old child, and the oldest aged 96.

Of the new cases, three are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 29 cases, Nakuru 10, Uasin Gishu 6, Meru 5, Kericho and Kiambu 4 cases each, Garissa, Kajiado and Kakamega 3 cases each, Laikipia, Boment, Busia, Nyeri, Kitui, Embu Machakos and Murang’a 2 cases each, Nandi, Narok, Siaya, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Makueni, Migori and Mombasa 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 5,140 after nine patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 242,535 after 308 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 241 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 67 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 195,115 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 46,420 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 918 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,994 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fifty-six (56) patients are in the ICU, 31 of whom are on ventilatory support and 23 on supplemental oxygen. Two patients are on observation.

Another 291 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 282 of them in general wards and nine in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
