US pop star Lizzo recently revealed her decision to "quit" due to relentless online targeting regarding her appearance and character.
In an Instagram post, the singer expressed her frustration, stating, "I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet." She added, "I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it."
The announcement comes after criticism surrounding her decision to headline a fundraising event despite facing accusations from her former dancers, including claims of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. Lizzo, however, denied these allegations.
The 35-year-old "Good as Hell" singer highlighted her desire to spread joy through music but lamented feeling constantly subjected to falsehoods and ridicule online.
She opened up about being targeted for her appearance and having her character scrutinized by strangers.
"I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views ... being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look," wrote Lizzo
She concluded her message by saying, "I didn't sign up for this," accompanied by a peace sign emoji.
Lizzo has previously been vocal about the hurtful comments she receives online, particularly regarding her body.
Last year, she faced a wave of body-shaming remarks, prompting her to speak out against the negativity.
"Y'all don't know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting," she wrote at the time.
The legal battle with her former dancers, including Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, continues, with allegations ranging from harassment to false imprisonment.
Lizzo has, however, maintained her innocence, labeling the accusations as "false" and "unbelievable."
Despite the controversies, Lizzo recently performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York for a fundraiser supporting US President Joe Biden.
