Growing up, we all mastered the dance to the Macarena which seemed to be the unofficial soundtrack to every school disco and kids' club ever.

Millions of children have turned their hands and jumped in a dizzying circle to the song so it wouldn't be too much of a leap to think it had been written for children, right?

Well it turns out that assumption couldn't be more wrong and the truth might make you reconsider how adults ever let you dance to the song as a child.

The lyrics are a mix between English and Spanish, but if we're all being honest we just sing a string of incomprehensible words in time to the music before yelling 'Ehhh Macarena' on cue.

But one man has been left horrified after learning the story behind the song, as TikTok user @Peakay81 posted a clip saying: "Tell me a song you listened to when you were younger, and you grew up and realised it's really dirty. You're never going to believe this..."

Saying he danced to the Macarena at school when he was about 10-years-old, he explained: "It's about a woman whose boyfriend is about to join the army and she, when he's away, has a threesome with his two best mates.

"No joke. Google it. What the f***!?"

The outrageous claim couldn't possibly be true so we did our own research as he suggested, and the song begins with lyrics that - although more racy than you might expect to feature in a school disco classic - seem to be nothing of the levels that were alleged.

The first verse finishes 'And if you're good, I'll take you home with me' before heading into the Spanish chorus, which is all about making your body feel good.

But it turns out the filth was right in front of us, in English, the whole time, as it continues: "But don't you worry about my boyfriend, he's a boy whose name is Vitorino. I don't want him, couldn't stand him, he was no good so I... (she laughs).

"Now, come on, what was I supposed to do? He was out of town and his two friends were so fine."

The video has been viewed 1.2 million times and left viewers stunned in the comments, as one said: "Actually... thanks, you ruined my childhood."

A second wrote: "Bro we literally dance to this song at weddings like what."

And another added: "Lol wait what... we danced so much to this song... I never knew. And we were motivating people to join us in the dance..."
