Award-winning Tanzanian rapper Ilunga ‘CPwaa’ Khalifa is dead. CPwaa died Sunday of acute pneumonia at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Dar es Salaam where he was undergoing treatment, reports The Citizen.

Famed for his Aisha hit song, and dubbed by some as Tanzania’s king of crunk, CPwaa had been admitted at the referral facility for four days before passing on early January 17. “May your soul rest in peace, my brother. My condolences to the family. It hurts but its Gods wish. You have always been a loyal friend and a brother to me. You shall be missed and never forgotten my brother,” mourned self-styled godfather of Bongo Flava, legendary producer P Funk Majani.
The rapper who boasted a must-listen catalogue featuring Tanzanian trendsetters; Park Lane associate Suma Lee, Swahili dancehall great Dully Sykes, the late Ngwair and Jamaica’s Ms Triniti, will be laid to rest later today at Mwinyimkuu cemetery in Magomeni, Dar es Salaam in accordance with Islamic traditions.

“We are waiting for the body to be ferried from the hospital,” CPwaa’s younger brother Murad Omar Khamis told Mwananchi. "He had been ailing for two weeks. He then came to live with his mother but was overwhelmed on Wednesday. We rushed him to Muhimbili and was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”
