Leaders flocked Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika’s ancestral home at Marmanet in Laikipia West for her dowry negotiation ceremony (Ruracio) yesterday afternoon. Deputy President William Ruto represented Sam Mburu, the suitor, while Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri represented the senator's family.

Dr Ruto was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), among others.  On the other hand, Ngunjiri, former CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira) among others, represented Kihika’s side.

“I am aware that there is enough food. However, I don’t think it will get to our stomachs well until negotiations are over,” said Ruto. He humorously added that he wouldn’t reveal what they had prepared to ensure they do not leak the menu for other men interested in the senator.

“I cannot speak about it here. We have to discuss it away from the gathering or else those people who are prepared to snatch Kihika from Mburu will take advantage and steal her from us,” he said. Ngunjiri, however, had promised to make Ruto’s side sweat before releasing Kihika to Mburu.

“I understand that people feel that the DP’s side is powerful. However, we equally have men who will represent our side firmly,” said Ngunjiri. He said his team had able leaders and elders to ensure Kihika dowry was well negotiated. “We have come prepared and we have taken all the necessary steps to ensure we get Kihika,” said Ruto.
