Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson fights fights back tears speaking on dad's shock death

Rocky Johnson was also a former professional wrestler.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has posted a heart-wrenching video talking about the sudden, shock death of his father last week.

The actor, 47, took to Instagram where he fought back tears as he spoke to the camera, lamenting the fact that his father died suddenly and he didn't get a chance to say goodbye.

He thanked his fans for their support and condolences since he announced the death of his father, Rocky Johnson, in an earlier Instagram post.

"I lost my old man a few days ago, I lost him just like that," he said.

"Didn't get a chance to say goodbye to him... I would give anything right now to give him a big old hug and a big old kiss before he crossed over, and to just say, 'Thank you, I love you and I respect you'.

"But I didn't get a chance to say that."

He talked about the pain of losing a parent, and the struggle of grief, before explaining how his father died aged 75.

He explained that his father had not been feeling well, battling a cold and infection, and began to suffer from deep vein thrombosis.

This caused a blood clot in his leg, which travelled up his lung and led to a massive heart attack, sadly killing Dwayne's father instantly, but he did not suffer.

Rocky did, however, suffer chronic pain his whole life, and so Dwayne spoke of his relief that his dad was no longer in pain.

Both father and son were professional wrestlers earlier in life.

The Rock then emphasised the important of "getting back up" after dealing with death, and honouring the person you lost.

He said his bond with his three young daughters is wonderful, but that the father and son bond was also "unique".

"Theres so much about my old man and all his complexities that only me, as his son, can understand," he said.

Dwayne concluded the video saying he was headed to the gym to work out his legs as his father had taught him, before beginning to start to write his eulogy.

He added that he would use tequila to help him write it - as his father would have suggested.

Laughing, he recalled one of his father's favourite jokes, "I taught you everything you know.

"But I didn't teach you everything I know."

Alongside the emotional video, Dwayne wrote: "Hard to express how deeply grateful I am for all your love, mana & support

"My family and I thank you ...

"Go hug your loved ones hard, while you still can.

"I love you. DJ " #ripsoulman ".
