Kenyans have been shocked by the death of popular Benga musician John Ng’ang’a alias De’Mathew.
The ‘My Friend’ singer passed away on Sunday night along Thika Superhighway after his vehicle rammed into a truck.
According to Capital News, the accident occurred at a black spot near Blue Post Hotel.

The Gatanga Member of Parliament Nduati Ngugi said the singer died on the spot. His body was taken to Thika Nursing Home before being transferred to the Kenyatta University mortuary.
De’Matthew was viewed by many as the king of Kikuyu music following the passing of Joseph Kamaru in October 2018.

Starehe MP Charles ‘Jaguar’ Njagua also mourned De’Matthew saying “while growing up, I listened a lot to John De’Mathew. His music inspired me greatly to become the musician I am today. I am deeply saddened by his untimely demise following a tragic road accident today. May his soul rest well in eternal peace. #ripDeMathew.”
“We deeply regret to announce the death of Mr John De Mathew. Him being in our line up at the Mugithi Festival, it gives us deep sadness and sorrow for loosing such a talent. He will be remembered by many but most importantly his fans. May He rest in Peace,” the Mugithi festival stated.
